Drywall Cutting Tools That Save You Time

Home renovations or home improvements are a lot of work and finishing a basement can be a daunting task. When it comes to drywalling anything that can make the job a little bit easier is a welcome addition to your tool box. I have come across two products that can really make a difference.

First, here is a drywall scoring square by Johnson which helps you make a cut along your drywall piece that is straight and exactly where you want it to be.

The yellow piece at the top glides along the edge of the drywall. You place your utility knife in one of the holes along the metal ruler which is where you want your cut to be. You can cut up to 24″ off your piece. Once you make your cut or more accurately your score line you do the same on the other side, then snap the drywall at the score mark.

One thing you have to remember with this tool is that it does not come with wheels on the yellow strip so you can’t expect it to glide along as if it did. It is also helpful to be working with a sharp utility knife.

If you want to work with a scoring tool that will be easier than the above one you will want to go with the Blade Runner Drywall Cutting Tool by Goldblatt.

It does cost more, however you are not limited to a cut 24″ down from the edge of your drywall or a straight cut.

With this tool you can easily make cuts to go around pipes or any other curves, corners, shapes and straight lines. It works with 1 2” or 5 8” board. Two magnetic halves mirror each other cutting both sides of the drywall at the same time for quick easy cuts making quick work of any drywall cutting job. All you need is a tape measure which can be inserted into the bladerunner for accurate cuts. This tool also keeps the blade safely away from your hands.

You can also purchase replacement blades if you have a lot of dry wall to cut. Handy for contractors who work with a lot of drywall for home improvements. They come in packs of 6 or 12 and are so easy to replace.
